The notice asks carriers to weigh in on a request to change the 60-hour weekly driving limit for inmate transport. Comments must be submitted by August 17, 2026.
A prisoner transport company is asking for an exemption from the 60-hour weekly driving limit. Colorado Huntsman Transport submitted a request to change the hours of service rule for its drivers. The company also seeks relief from the rule requiring commercial vehicles to display the carrier name and USDOT number.
The agency denied this request earlier this year. Huntsman is now asking for a revised schedule. The company proposes a 10-day on and 10-day off work cycle. It also asks to cap daily driving at 7 hours.
Carriers and drivers may submit comments on the safety impact of this request. The agency will review all submissions and the applicant safety analysis before making a final decision. Comments must be received on or before August 17, 2026.
All submissions must reference docket number FMCSA-2024-0317. Comments may be filed online, by mail, by hand delivery, or by fax. The agency will publish all non-confidential comments in the public docket.
